What is a Community Chaplain?
Chaplains spiritually help the public at times of need. We respond to emergencies with pastoral care and ministering presence. We assist people when they need a minister but don't know where to turn--weddings, memorials, counseling, in-home visitation. Though ordained by a specific religion, chaplains nonetheless serve everyone. Our service is non-sectarian, meeting client's needs as fits their religion or irreligion. When needed, we locate a minister of the client's specific faith.

What is Spiritual?
This buzzword has many meanings in our culture. For the chaplain working in a pluralistic civic setting, it is a specific synonym for "existential", "life-meaning giving" or "the things that really matter most" to someone. Sometimes this is religious, sometimes it is not. It is the client who decides what fits the bill. That said, if an event relates to birth, death, faith or family, chaplains often expect that to be spiritual.
Community Chaplaincy of SouthWest Florida
Mission:
To provide immediate pastoral care at time of need, and to engage in the on-going long-term strengthening of the towns and neighborhoods of SWFL. Our focus is 3-fold.
1) Civic: We non-partisanly provide chaplain care to local emergency responders, law enforcement, and local town government. We spiritually help the public in time of need.
2) Religious: We support, applaud and assist all local congregations and their religious leaders ecumenically. We also represent and uphold our own ordained religious tradition.
3) Economic: We are for the vibrant, moral, long-term financial success of our towns and neighborhoods, embracing each area's uniqueness. We work with businesses, owners, employees and entrepreneurs to forward their cause spiritually.
Organizational Foundation:
Community Chaplaincy of SWFL is sponsored by The Religious Order of Magi and Stable, a member of The Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches. As such, CC-SWFL emulates the Christian virtues to 1) Love your neighbor as yourself. 2) Care for the last, least, lost. 3) Seek the success of your city. 4) Be all things to all people that some may be won for Christ.
Scriptural Basis: Civic: Matthew 5:3-9, Matthew 19:19, Luke 10:26-37, Genesis 41:46-57, Jeremiah 29:7-8, Psalm 146:7-8 Exodus 22:21-22, Genesis 41:46-57. Religious: John 13:34, John 17:23, Matthew 5:46-47, Ephesians 4:3, Romans 14:1, 9-10, 19; 1 Corinthians 9:22, Economic: Matthew 19:19, Proverbs 11:10, 14:22, Genesis 41:46-57, Jeremiah 29:11-14
